By Invitation Only

When you get caught up in one thing, other things seem to get left by the wayside.
AND, it's been brought to my attention, (not once, but many times), that I completely forgot to post my final product for my best friend's wedding invites!  
For those who are new or weren't even aware - yes, I am a card crafter, as well as a poet. :)
Two of my most beloved creative outlets.
Last year, my best friend asked me if I could hand make all her wedding invites. You can read more of that here. After graciously accepting the offer, AND much revisions (four to be exact), I present to you some snapshots of this challenging yet, most gratifying, labor of love I've ever done. All 150 of them... :)

I have to admit, I didn't want to let these invites go after all the hard work and care I put into making them. Afterall, they were like my babies! LOL

But as much as I'd like to take credit, I actually need to thank the 'sweat shop' for helping me assemble these.  Thank you for not driving me into insanity. Also, thank you for presenting me with new headaches along the way...(too much glue!!!!) LOL...

So with that said, conjuring up those laborious memories made me want to post this last card I made.  This was for a my son's best friend's birthday not too long ago.

This is just for fun, plus it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

it all starts with an idea...

Last week, I was asked by my best friend to be a bridesmaid for her wedding next August.  Naturally, I was excited and honored...so, of course, I said yes!


Then...
She asked me if I could do her wedding invitations.  (Well, more like, she "told" me.  Ha ha.)
Now, mind you, card crafting is more of a hobby to me.  I've never really tried to venture out into selling my cards.  Aside from the one-off occasion during Christmas where people actually wanted to buy my cards...and I couldn't say no to making an extra dolla on the side. :)  But other than that, it's merely a casual hobby.


But nevertheless, I would do anything for my girl, so, I am definitely up for the challenge!  She sent me some websites and links to the types of styles she was interested in.  And instantly, I got inspired.  These are just some derived sketches based on the images she sent me.

And the following night, I made these mock invites.  Obviously, not the finished product, since there's still talk of different themes/colours and such, but you'll get the idea. 

Very simple, and streamlined...which makes for an easy template to work with.

Surprisingly, these weren't too difficult to make.  And I actually enjoyed making them; getting back into my card crafting mentality.  However, I'm bracing myself  now when I find out how many invites I will need to make in the not-too-distant future! Lord help me...lol!

my other new found hobby.

card making. i stumbled across this new form of 'therapy' on the hunt for making invitations. had i realized what i was getting into, there would have been warning signs along the way. this was a whole new world waiting for me. for instance, i never thought that i would spend hours upon hours inside a scrapbook shop that had nothing but paper inside it. and upon leaving the store, with a huge stack of card stock and patterned paper, i then wondered to myself what the hell am i gonna DO with all this paper?

with the guidance of my sis-in-law (you have unleashed a monster), and taking a few card making classes, i soon got the hang of it. here are some of my creations. enjoy!!

again, cards that i made from a card class with the same instructor. colleen, you rock! its nice to have this set of cards laying around, having 2 boys myself, really helps!
