listening pleasure

Today I am enjoying the day off, just like old times - my Mondays.
Take some time to relax, regroup and listen to some music like I always do.
No kids, no chores, no errands.......just me.
Right now, I'm in my music phase.  Been furiously trying to update my playlists since my ipod has been neglected just a weeeeee bit (that was because of my reading phase a few weeks back).
So, for those who want to enjoy today like I am, here is my top 10.  Happy Monday, I'm hoping this week will be a better week for me - it's starting of beautifully already!

1.  Electric Relaxation - A Tribe Called Quest
2.  Come Close - Common ft. Mary J. Blige
3.  Mary Jane (All Nite Long) - Mary J. Blige
4.  Turn Your Lights Down Low - Lauryn Hill ft. Bob Marley
5.  Soon The New Day - Talib Kweli ft. Norah Jones
6.  The Sweetest Thing - Lauryn Hill
7.  You Got Me - The Roots
8.  The Way - Jill Scott
9.  Millionaire - Musiq Souldchild
10.  The Sweetest Taboo - Sade

The first long weekend of the so-called 'summer' in Vancouver is over and my whole week so far is out of whack.  Really it's a good thing, since the week is almost over.  But needless to say, I've been having some troubles sleeping and therefore, sleeping in; leading to less time to get ready in the morning; followed by not enough time to have my lunch ready.

Yesterday morning, I missed my morning bus.  As many mothers could relate, I was busy cutting up the leftovers from the night before to pack for my kids' lunches....with only a few minutes to spare. I was so busy making sure their lunches were ready that I barely had something for myself.

This morning was a different story.  I told my youngest son while getting ready that I missed my bus yesterday.  And being the kid he is, he says "Sorry, mommy".  I say, "No, don't say sorry. It just happened, I still got to work. Everything is fine."
The next thing I know, after leaving the washroom of the final phase of primping and preening, I see my son, packing my lunch for me in the kitchen.  He says, "Here Mommy, I'm packing your lunch for you so that you won't be late."

The simple pleasures of being a mom in the morning.  :)

poetry session

"I am not worried about your future...'cause after 2night...I plan on being in your history 4ever..."
-'Fantasize' by Floetry

With all the things that I love to do,
There is nothing more fullfilling, more exciting, more gripping,
More comprehensive, more expressive, more provacative, more explitive,
More theraputic, more cathartic, more simplistic, more logic-al
More favorable, more physical, more sexual, more emotional,
Truly, completely, wholly, undoubtedly me
Than Poetry.

For all those who love poetry more than I do, here is something I would like to share.  Mostly poetry starts (well, for me at least) with love.  This is dedicated for everyone who has ever dreamed, fantisized, or wished about a particular someone.  I believe that this feeling everyone can relate to.  For whomever this particular person is for you (a lover, friend, wife, hubby!) at any stage in life (mingling, dating, exclusive or married), I think that this group Floetry says it perfectly.

Floetry is one of my favorite groups, mostly in part because they started off being poets first before being musicians.  And I absolutely love how this duo "flows".  Watch the video and you will see what I'm talking about.  Watch the video - entitled "Fantasize".

Enjoy, happy weekend, and happy fantasizing!

...more on birthdays....and guns....

(Carla, this one is for you!!!  Happy birthday!)

Self discovery is an amazing thing. It's at least what i found out last Friday when I mosied on down to DVC Ventures for a birthday celebration with a 'bang'. (wah wah).  For those of you who are not familiar, DVC Ventures is an indoor shooting range, located in Port Coquitlam, BC.  It had been my first time ever visiting this place, and let me tell ya - I'm addicted!

Firing a gun is quite an exhilarating feeling.  It's a great way to relieve the stress that I had been feeling thanks to my new and challenging job.  Granted, I'm still finding balance and going through a transitional phase with this new job - so it was real good way to release some tension.

The employees were very friendly (almost like being at a family friends' house) and professional.  Being it was my 1st time, they made me feel very comfortable, welcome and safe.

I would really encourage anyone who is interested in going to a gun range for the 1st time to come to this place.  (This is a free one is paying me to say this!!!!) Especially for the ladies - it's free on Fridays!!!

But I can't take all the credit.  I have to hand it to Carla, again, for introducing me to this new place and new found hobby.  (And yes, it has only just begun.)  P.S. You are such a bad influence!!!  LOL.  But I have to say......Carla, you are an amazing person to me and I am glad you are in my life.  You are a constant inspiration and you help inspire me to keep nurturing my talents.  I love you!  Happy Birthday!

a perfect mother's day

Happy Mother's Day to all you beautiful moms!
I enjoyed my day so much, having lunch with my sister and my mom.  There's something about spending time with family that really puts life into perspective.
But I have to say, the highlight of my day was receiving gifts from my 2 sons.  Sometimes, there couldn't be anybody else in the world that know me as well as they do.

Very recently, I posted an entry about my name, 'June'.  My youngest son, Reece, 8 years old, wrote a poem about my name!  How fittingly so, since I too write poems and even more so, it's another reason why I no longer have to hide behind my name.  I love it!!!  The inside of the card is even coloured green, my favourite colour!

And my eldest son, Isaiah, 10 years old, made CARDS for me using his very own artwork he made at school!  It's no secret that i love card crafting.  But mostly I do it for other people.  I never expected to have a handmade card from my own son to be given to me!

Top left is Mona Lisa (holding a lolipop), top right & bottom left is autumn artwork, and bottom right is Mama Mary.  Again, so fitting that it's Mother's Day!

The two perfect gifts in the world ever!  Thank you Isaiah & Reece!  Mommy loves you!

babies & birthdays

very recently, i attended a baby shower for one of my closest and dearest friends. her and her husband are expecting their first child, a boy, in about a month or so. and i saw it fitting that i make them a special card for an equally special family.

i love these embellishments made by making memories. it's wonderful how fabric can dramatically enhance the texture of cards!

and last night, it was a night with the girls! a night that's been long overdue. over the span of the past 2 months, we celebrated 4 birthdays for 4 special ladies in one night.

first of all, what a cost saver! and second of all, we got to enjoy such wonderful 5 star cuisine during one of my favorite times of the year in vancouver called dine out vancouver. it gives thousands of locals and tourists alike a chance to dine at some of the city's top restaurants at an attactive price!

so the restaurant of choice for us was Market by Jean-Georges located at the Shangri-La Vancouver Hotel.

the most magnificent food and wine that i've ever tasted...

Steamed Shrimp Salad Tender Greens, Avocado Champagne Dressing

Seared British Columbia Hanger Steak, Gingered Mushrooms, Soy-Caramel Sauce
Warm Chocolate Cake Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream
...mixed with the most wonderful company a girl could ever ask for was a recipe for a special night filled with fun, laughter and class!!!

and my heart could not pass up the occasion to make some beautiful cards for some equally beautiful women.

whether it be welcoming a new member of the family, or celebrating friendships who are extensions of your family, i absolutely love to share a little bit of creativity in the most simplest of ways. this post is dedicated to those of you celebrating a special occasion! CHEERS!
